Stony Brook University is currently enrolling pregnant women in a phase 4 (medication is already available to the public) clinical trial evaluating if optimizing vitamin D levels during pregnancy prevents preeclampsia and other hypertensive disorders of pregnancy and improves neonatal outcomes. Vitamin D has recently been shown to have a role in the formation of new blood vessels and in the development and function of the placenta. For more information, see: https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT02920593?recrs=a&cond=Preeclampsia&rank=74
